The core objective of this project was to develop a digital academic calendar application that would revolutionize the way students and educators manage their schedules. This innovative application was designed to automatically update important dates and events, offering a seamless and efficient solution to a common problem in academic life.
The challenge was differentiating this application from the pre-existing calendar features within widely-used academic apps. This presented a creative and strategic challenge in terms of user engagement and value addition.
The project began with initial sketches to explore design possibilities, the creation of a suitable color palette, and defining permission requirements.
Prototyping
Leveraging Figma, I transformed these concepts into a high-fidelity prototype, resulting in a visually pleasing and functional app.
User Testing
To gauge the app's usability and effectiveness, a group of testers was engaged. They unanimously found that this calendar app surpassed default calendar applications, primarily due to the layout of the app. They were understanding about the prototype and wished to see it expanded into a working app found in the app store.
Usability Across Age Groups
One of the central challenges was ensuring the app's accessibility across a wide age range. While the primary focus was on college and high school students, I also explored the potential of middle schoolers.
Despite a tight two-week time frame, I successfully recruited college and high school students as testers, providing invaluable insights. The project from ideation to sketching, prototyping, testing, and presentation, was completed within this remarkable time frame. I am satisfied with the final outcome.
